Do you remember a time when your business idea was just an idea? Did you often spend time thinking about how great it would be to be your own boss? How many times did you tell yourself it was something you could achieve, that your dream was in your hands and you were the person to make it happen? And now, you are facing fears of your own and wondering how to overcome fear?

Every entrepreneur starts somewhere. Whether it’s a ‘light-bulb’ moment in the middle of the night, or something that you have always known you want to do, there’s a point where you have to start setting the wheels in motion. It’s time to make it happen.

All too often an overwhelming feeling of where to start can deter some people. Finding the right guidance and support is paramount to the success of your initial business set up. We all need people to turn to for advice, especially in those areas where we have little or no experience.

Are you delaying starting your business because you are overcome by ‘the fear’? It’s very common and you are not alone. The first thing you need to do to combat this is to each day repeat the following affirmations:-

·  Don’t fear the unknown – embrace it!

·  Don’t fear failure – learn from it!

·  Don’t fear the competition – you can beat it!

Sounds simple doesn’t it? It’s easy to say; however, for these affirmations to really work their magic, you have to truly believe in them. Look at yourself in the mirror and straight into your eyes. If you do not believe what you are saying, then you need to work on your self belief. You need to value yourself and what you have to offer and you need to convey that belief to your potential clients.

These affirmations should be used throughout your working life as a business owner. They are not only applicable at the start but throughout your whole career, remember…

·  Nobody will ever know everything!

·  Nobody will ever get everything right!

·  Nobody will ever get anywhere without working hard to maintain their status and success!

Recognising just how far we have progressed on our ventures is an important contribution to ongoing development. Remember to reflect on just what you have achieved so far and give yourself praise. Review what has worked and what hasn’t and apply those lessons to obtaining the next level.

So what are you waiting for? What is stopping you from turning that idea into reality? Go and find that mirror and repeat after me…
